The Safety Manager will be based at James Hardie’s Carole Park facility, 10 klm South-West of the Brisbane CBD.  The business employs about 200 employees and operates 24/7 across a range of established and new, world class manufacturing lines.
 
Primary Purpose
The newly created role of Safety Manager will provide technical safety support and leadership to all plant departments within the Carole Park manufacturing business.  The development of safety improvement strategies in line with business needs is paramount, as is the need to drive cultural change, to ensure that operator ownership of safe work practices and safe behaviour is maximised. The Safety Manager will be responsible for the development of safety and health programs and objectives.

This role is responsible for the improvement and maintenance of plant safety, safety systems and procedures. Compliance implementation and design of JH specific safety training packages with department managers is a main responsibility of this role. Regular monitoring of health and safety regulations and provision of technical support to plant personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations. Emphasis will be placed on increasing our standard of manufacturing practices, safety management systems and applicable company policies & procedures.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications Required
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications 
  • Comprehensive experience in a Senior Safety role within a similar environment 
  • Proven ability to work and reach desired outcomes at a high performance level
  • Self-starter and works effectively without supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 'Can do' attitude and likes to challenge and develop improvements on current systems and processes
  • Works well under pressure with high energy level
  • Assertive and confident in capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to in effectively drive change in the workplace 
  • Capability for gap analysis, planning and priority setting 
  • Complex problem-solving & negotiating skills. 
  • Ability to interface with all levels and disciplines within the Company.
