The Australian Defence Force Centre for Mental Health (ADFCMH) is a growing centre of excellence within Joint Health Command and provides leadership, best practice and innovation in military mental health. The ADFCMH hub is located in Sydney with regional teams located across Australia. Together the ADFCMH team develops and delivers a robust set of mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention programs; provides consultancy services; delivers training and upskilling programs for the ADF mental health workforce; and implements a range of mental health promotion initiatives.

The position, Regional Mental Health Manager – Southern NSW and ACT (RMHM – SNSW&ACT), is an important part of the national network of professionals working in mental health. The RMHM – SNSW&ACT is responsible for coordinating the planning, implementation and monitoring of Joint Health Command managed mental health programs and initiatives in Southern NSW and ACT.

The RMHM – SNSW&ACT will lead a small team of mental health professionals responsible for the promotion and delivery of mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention programs and initiatives for serving Defence personnel as well as mental health upskilling programs for health professionals in the region.

The RMHM – SNSW&ACT is responsible for the development of strategic relationships that will assist in the promotion of mental health initiatives and act as an advisor and consultant for mental health programs in their region/s.The RMHM is responsible for the application of policy, governance and assurance systems to support quality outcomes in their region/s in relation to mental health programs and initiatives.

Duties include and are not limited to:

  • Defining program needs for their region and working with the central team to determine regional and national work effort priorities
  • Working with the Senior Mental Health Professional to define mental health workforce training needs for the region
  • Coordinating and delivering programs including workforce upskilling and development programs to support improved mental health care
  • Contributing to the national communication of information and resources relating to evidence based practice
  • Applying program quality and assurance system and reporting for mental health programs and initiatives in their region/s
  • Supporting Command with advice on evidence based practice and mental health initiatives in response to local need
  • Stakeholder engagement

This position will require regular travel to Defence bases in the region.
