About the Client
Yancoal Australia is Australia’s largest pure-coal producer, operating five mines and managing five others across New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia. Yancoal currently employs approximately 5,500 people, sourcing the majority of its people from the local communities in which it operates.

Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of Yancoal’s largest operations –15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. Yancoal are now seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to be based at this site.
  
About the Role
This role will see you charged with the management, implementation and continuous improvement of the site Safety & Health Management System. The key focus will be to implement and drive a robust H&S program that leads to the achievement of critical business objectives at the site. You will provide strategic guidance and management across the key areas of Safety Operations, Emergency Response, Rehabilitation and Contractor Management. With a strong platform for growth, the opportunity exists to coach and mentor operational leaders on best practice reporting with a focus on embedding safety through a time of complex change.

Key Responsibilities
You will implement and drive health and safety programs and processes which will lead to continuous improvement, conduct comprehensive audit and reviews of all site operations and processes to detect existing/potential H&S issues. You will be responsible for the leadership of the Health and Safety team, ensuring the establishment of positive relationships with internal stakeholders with relation to influencing the business core values supporting safety.
 
About Success
Successful candidates will have the following experience:
  • Relevant experience having worked in a similar industrial environment (mining, construction, oil & gas)
  • Comprehensive experience in a Senior H&S role within a similar environment 
  • Ability to handle multi-tasking in a fast paced environment. 
  • Strong leadership, influencing and communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively drive change in the workplace
  • Capability for gap analysis, planning and priority setting 
  • Complex problem-solving & negotiating skills
  • Ability to interface with all levels and disciplines within the Company
